Q: Who made Polaris RPG?
A: Me, Duh.
Q: Who are you?
A: I am who I am.
Q: Why did you only use six sided dice?
A: Good question, I invented Polaris RPG to circumvent some of
the complexities that make other RPGs not fun. In my passion to create
a fun, yet simple rule set, I also thought it would be keen if you
didn't have to drive to a special store and buy special expensive dice
to play the game. I rather enjoyed the idea of an RPG you could play
anywhere you could snag the dice from a board game.
Q: Why did you name it Polaris RPG?
A: Well... in it infancy my original players ad all simply called
it "The Game". I figured, however, that that really wasn't easy to communicate
to other people, so I started calling it "Polaris" after the main star
system around which the game revolves. I refer to it constantly as "Polaris
RPG" because there are a million billion other things called "Polaris"
out there, including the BBS star trade RPG: Polaris. So I Figured I
would tack on RPG simply to differentiate it from all the other Polarises
out there.
Q: Why didn't you just name it something different?
A: I simply couldn't think of anything else and it just sort
of makes sense.
Q: Is this game meant to be so... ummm... bad... I mean funny...
yeah that's it?
A: Yes, yes it is. When I made Polaris RPG (at the time I was
like 13 or 14) I wanted it to feel like a bad old space comic book.
Hence all of the animal races and laser guns. As time went by I actually
formulated reasons for all the stuff that didn't makes sense. Now, if
I ever finish the DM guide you might actually get the justifications
yourself.
Q: The physics of this game doesn't make any sense... it just
seems like the Jetsons or something, don't you like science?
A: I love science! and to a player, everything might look like
a crazy space world that throws real science to the wind, but I assure you
its not true, there are very good reasons for everything.
Q: Why are all of your guides in black and white?
A: This game started on pencil and paper with a lot of photocopying.
I really wanted to keep that look to it, in addition I wanted to make
it as easy as possible for people to print directly from the web page
without wasting expensive color ink, and giving them the ability to
make nice photocopies.Q: As long as we are on the
subject of colors, What's up with the colors? I mean is your logo in
cyan or teal or something?
A: All of the original paperwork, drawings, maps and rules
from the original game used to reside in what we called the
"All-Mighty-Book". This behemoth was a solid teal and hot pink
1980s trapper keeper. I wanted to pay some homage to the
All-Mighty-Book, but decided that hot pink wasn't the way to go.
Q: How Frequently were any of these Questions ever really Asked?
A: Ummm.... shut up!
Q: Is Polaris RPG Open Source?
A: No, it takes millions of man hours and and thousands of workers
to put together a project like this, if we gave it away for free all
those workers and their families would starve to death!!! What kind
of evil bastard are you?!
Q: No, really... is it open source?
A: What does that mean anyway? I mean... its a Role Playing Game...
by the very nature of the thing you know all the rules...
Q: Does this FAQ ever end?
A: Yes. |
